California Institute of the Arts
California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) offers unique programs at the undergraduate and graduate level within its six world-renowned Schools—Art, Critical Studies, Dance, Film/Video, Music and Theater.
Our BFA and MFA programs build high-level proficiencies in performance, technique, choreography, dance production technologies, and critical understanding of the art form—all within a global cultural context. CalArts Dance offers creative exchange and collaboration between professionally motivated students and a faculty of practicing artists.
Just north of Los Angeles, CalArts Dance benefits from performance opportunities at REDCAT and other downtown spaces while generating an international network of choreographic exchange beyond the U.S. Dancers pursue rigorous training in technique (ballet, contemporary, street dance/hip-hop, and African dance), choreography, and interdisciplinary and media-driven collaborations. The curriculum includes courses in critical dance studies, dance on camera, music, Pilates, and anatomy, as well as courses across campus.
