The University of North Carolina School of the Arts is a top-ranked creative and performing arts conservatory in Winston-Salem, N.C. As America’s first state-supported arts school, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, located in Winston-Salem, is a unique stand-alone public university of five arts conservatories: Dance, Design and Production, Drama, Filmmaking, and Music. The School of Dance at UNCSA offers high school and college-level professional dance training, leading to a high school diploma, a college arts diploma, and a BFA in Dance. It is an educational affiliate school of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre and a partner school of the Prix de Lausanne.

The School of Dance has the exclusive use of nine air-conditioned studios, all with sprung floors and pianos. Fifteen full-time faculty members and five dance musicians are joined by guest artists who teach and choreograph throughout the year. UNCSA’s School of Dance presents approximately 50 performances each year, from major concerts in the 3,000-seat Steven Tanger Center for Performing Arts in Greensboro, N.C. to smaller concerts and workshops in the 188-seat Agnes de Mille Theatre. Also, the School of Dance performs throughout the state in a variety of community and in-school performances. The repertory in these productions is a combination of well-known classical and contemporary works and original works created by faculty and guest artists.

Alumni from the UNCSA School of Dance are active in all areas of the dance world as principal dancers with major companies, company directors, rehearsal directors/ballet masters, choreographers, and teachers.
