Unitec (Te Pukenga)
Unitec is part of Te Pūkenga, New Zealand’s national network of polytechnics, industry training organisations, and institutes of technology. We offer a wide range of work-oriented programmes and short courses that are employment-focused and taught at our two campuses in Mt. Albert and Waitākere.
Contemporary dance at Unitec focuses on choreographic and performance practice at a professional level. Our selected students spend the majority of their time in the studio working on dance techniques that include contemporary, safe dance practice, improvisation, teaching pedagogy, cultural proficiency, and ballet. We constantly test our students’ practice in public-facing performances throughout the year.
Live performance and Dance for film are huge parts of our training. Students undertake solo and group work as well as projects by guest choreographers.
At Unitec we have one of the largest and most diverse film and performing arts Schools in the country. Our students also get practical experience in sound and music design, video editing, costume, and lighting. It’s a unique environment that mimics the dance industry, so we enable our students be to hit the ground running when they graduate.
