Goldsmiths, University of London is a constituent research university of the University of London. Goldsmiths was originally founded in 1891 in South East London and specialises in the arts, design, computing, humanities and social sciences. Goldsmiths offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in dance and performance such as Musical Theatre, Dance Movement Psychology, World Performances, and several other programmes exploring dance, performance and movement.
In June 2012, with the authorization and approval of the Office of Chinese Language Council (Hanban), the Beijing Dance Academy and Goldsmiths, University of London, jointly established the world’s first Confucius Institute dedicated to dance and performance in the UK. The Goldsmiths Confucius Institute is the only one of its kind that focuses on Chinese language teaching and has been committed to the cultural exchange of Chinese dance, performance, and arts. Through a decade of dedicated efforts, the Goldsmiths Confucius Institute for Dance and Performance has become one of the most distinctive Confucius Institutes globally, sowing seeds of hope in the hearts of people from various countries, building a bridge of friendship between China and the world, and continuously striving to enhance its educational characteristics and quality, as well as promoting cultural exchanges between China and other nations.
