
Indonesian Institute of the Arts Surakarta
Institute Seni Indonesia Surakarta(ISI Surakarta) is one of the state art universities under the supervision of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture (KEMDIK- BUDRSITEK). ISI Surakarta was originated as an academy-level university under the name Indonesian Karawitan Art Academy (ASKI) Surakarta, which was established as a forum to pioneer the development of traditional arts in 1965. In 1983 it merged with the Akademi Seni Tari Indonesia (ASTI) to form the Sekolah Tinggi Seni Indonesia Surakarta(STSI Surakarta). In September 2006 it was raised to the level of an institute and given its current name.
The Dance Arts Study Program provides an opportunity for the public to acquire quality artusticsklls and knowledge of arts and culture and the best learning experience at the undergraduate level(Bachelor).
The development of science and technology, the dynamics of people s living, and the cultural hegemony of various foreign cultures need to be addressed positively in order to encourage dance creativity that includes collaboration, multiculturalism, cross culture, diversity-plurality, and post-modernism in order to strengthen the nation’s cultural values. Conditions that developed in the era of globalization need to receive serious responses and studies, both in terms of artistic and scientific work.
